posted 02/28/2012 Saugus Youth Hockey and Lynnfield Youth Hockey will be merging for the 2012-13 hockey season.
On Thursday February 16, 2012, the SYH executive board of directors along with our registrar and ice coordinator met with the LYH executive board of directors for an emergency meeting to discuss a possible merger between the two programs for the 2012-13 hockey season. All in attendance at this meeting unanimously decided (11-0) to go forward and present the details to the remainder of their boards.
Last night, Monday, February 27, 2012, the SYH board of directors held another emergency meeting, along with a few parents in attendance, and unanimously decided (12-0) that this was in the best interest of both programs going forward. The LYH board of directors also met last night, and they also unanimously decided (11-0) to go forward with the merger.
This merger will be for one year on a waiver by Mass Hockey. After next season, if SYH and LYH decide to make this merger permanent, a vote will need to be taken. This vote will be from all parents of SYH and LYH, where the majority wins.
SYH, as well as LYH, believes this merger is in the best interest of all the kids in both programs. Our numbers compliment each other very well, as to where SYH is weaker in numbers Lynnfield is strong, and where Lynnfield is weaker in numbers, SYH is stronger.
In the coming days, the executive boards of each program will begin a series of meetings to iron out the details of the merger and begin the process moving forward toward the 2012-2013 season as one entity.
The next SYH regularly scheduled monthly board meeting is Tuesday March 6th, 7:30PM at the American Legion Hall on Taylor Street.
The Board of SYH understands that many parents will have questions regarding this merger. All parents are urged to attend the next BOD mneeting to have any and all questions they may have addressed.
